Tattoo Aftercare
1. - Remove bandage after 2-6 hours. If dried blood is present, making bandage removal difficult, use warm water.
2. - Wash tattoo gently with very warm water and mild soap, preferably a liquid glycerine or castile soap. Make sure that all dried blood and plasma have been gently washed away from the tattooed area. Next, thoroughly rinse all soap away with very warm water. Lastly rinse with cold water to close your pores. After washing, let the tattoo completely air dry for 5-10 minutes before applying the first coat of lotion or ointment.
3. - For the first 2-3 nights, Fatty's recommends that you bandage your tattoo with cling wrap or saran wrap and secure the bandage with scotch tape before sleeping. If you have no sensitivities to petroleum based products, apply a thin layer of ointment on the tattoo before bandaging. Leave the bandage on over night and remove it in the morning. If there is a coat of blood or plasma on the tattoo in the morning, follow bandage removal procedures (Step 1-2).
4a. - For Those with No Petroleum Skin Sensitivities: Apply a VERY THIN layer of antibiotic ointment (sold at Fatty's) 1-2 times a day for the first three days. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you discontinue using the ointment after the first 3 days. After day 3, begin applying a FRAGRANCE-FREE lightweight body lotion 1-2 times a day for 2-3 weeks or so.
4b. - For Those with Petroleum or Skin Sensitivities: Apply only a FRAGRANCE FREE lightweight body lotion 1-2 times a day for 2-3 weeks. Also wash tattoo gently with a mild glycerine or castile soap. Note: If you have any kind of bad reaction to either your ointment or lotion(rash, bumps, soreness, etc..), discontinue using all moisturizing products and contact Fatty's immediately.
5. - Always wash hands before applying ointments and lotions.
6. - Your tattoo will begin to flake, peel and/or scab in a few days. This is a normal part of the healing process. Wear loose, breathable clothing (i.e. cotton) that does not rub against your healing tattoo.
7. - your tattoo will take approximately 3-4 weeks to fully heal.
Things Not to Do
1. - DO NOT pick at scabs or scratch your tattoo during the healing process.
2. - DO NOT soak your tattoo under water of any kind while it is healing. Although showering is fine, baths, jacuzzis, pools, oceans, etc. are off limits until the tattoo is fully healed. Your tattoo is an open wound and is at risk of infection from bacteria in these places. Also, soaking may result in pitting or scarring of your tattoo.
3. - DO NOT expose your healing tattoo to the sun(this includes tanning salons). After your tattoo is fully healed, sunblock (SPF 45-50) is recommended when exposing your healed tattoo to the sun.
4. - AVOID exposing your healing tattoo to any dirt, animal hair, or infectious material of any kind.
